Replacement Laptop Battery

by admin on January 10, 2011

The battery is one of the most important parts of a laptop. Without a battery, a laptop is basically worthless. Well, it’s not worthless per se, but it’s certainly not as functional as a laptop is intended to be.

A laptop is basically a portable desk top computer. Without power, a computer can’t operate. A laptop can operate with a power cord, but it depends on your model, etc. Google “operate without a batter” and your brand and model to find out if your model operates without a battery or not. However, whether your laptop with operate with or without a battery and instead using a cord still negates the original purpose of a laptop. You should be able to take your laptop anywhere and use it for a few hours up to almost 10 hours depending upon whether you have a netbook or if you have a double battery.

Replacement laptop batteries should allow you to use your laptop where you want to without fear of your laptop dying in the middle of your work.

Tips of increasing the battery life of a laptop

  1. Keep the number of programs running down to a minimum. In other words, don’t multi-task.
  2. Disable your wireless and blue tooth capabilities. This also goes for cell phones. Especially in cell phones and to a lesser extent laptops, disabling your wireless and blue tooth capabilities can really extent the life of your laptop battery.
  3. Turn down the brightness of your laptop. A brighter screen uses more power.
  4. Defragment your hard drive often. This allows your laptop to operate at its peak performance and only using your hard drive when absolutely necessary.
  5. Add more RAM. If your laptop results to using virtual memory, this places more of a burden on your hard drive which uses more battery power. This will of course only help if you are typically using quite a bit of your virtual memory (usually only done when you don’t have enough RAM).
  6. If you are accessing a program on a CD, place the file or program on your laptop hard drive. Using a CD or DVD Drive is very battery intensive.
  7. Keep your laptop cool. As your laptop warms, the fans will need to operate at a high speed. More heat on the laptop not only causes the laptop fans to increase speed, but it may cause other components to worker harder due to increased deficiency due to increased heat.
  8. Do not let a Li-ion battery completely discharge. This was common practice when dealing with NiCd batteries. Newer, Li-ion batteries do not experience a “memory effect”. A memory effect basically means that as the life of the battery increases, it will lose its total charge capacity unless you let it charge all the way down.
  9. Optimize your power options. In the power usage area, set your battery to max battery. This will ensure that your battery is being used as efficiently as possible.
  10. Look at potentially purchasing a new laptop. If you are big on getting a lot of battery use from your laptop, it might simply be time to replace your laptop with a new version. To get a battery with extensive battery life, you might want to look at either netbooks or a laptop with a double battery.

The fact of the matter is that no matter how well you treat your laptop battery, it’ll eventually become not as effective as it was originally. In that instance, you’ll want to look at a replacement laptop battery. The best thing to do is to know the brand and the model number of your laptop. It will most likely be pretty simple to recall the brand name of your laptop, but your model number might be a little more difficult. Usually, laptops have the model numbers printed on the front near the keyboard or on the back of the laptop. If you can’t find the model number of your laptop, your battery typically has a model number on it. Once you’ve found exactly what you need, you’ll want to verify that the laptop battery replacement part you are purchasing has battery contacts in the same places that your current laptop battery has them. Once, you’ve confirmed that, you should be set for the purchase.
